We adopted a puppy from Healing Hearts Rescue. Her name is Ginny and she’s 8 weeks old.

We brought her home on Saturday and I’ve noticed a significant boost from my depression. I know that playing with a dog can elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine which make us happier and more calm. The name of the rescue Healing Hearts is so fitting because it feels like I’m healing.

I’m still getting weekly ketamine infusions which help significantly. Today Ginny was able to join me for the appointment and she napped on the floor.

There is a lot of anxiety that accompanies progress — fear of going back into the dark, but for now, I’m absorbing all the happiness and love from every puppy kiss and snuggle.
It’s amazing how much you’re missing in a depressive state until you start to come out on the other side. It’s like breathing again after being underwater for far too long.
