Sleep + hypnic jerk

Most of the time I have no issues falling asleep— I think it’s because of the various treatments I receive that leave me feeling fatigued. And add distance learning into the mix and I’m always up for a nap. The issue I have is that 2-30 seconds after I fall asleep I have a hypnic jerk that wakes me up. Everyone has these from time to time but mine are very intense because it’s not just a twitch, but a full body jerk.

A hypnic jerk is an involuntary twitch of one or more muscles that occurs as a person is falling asleep. It tends to happen just as the person is transitioning from a wakeful state to a sleeping state.

The guys have noticed significantly more twitching after I was discharged out of the hospital. This could be due to medication changes.

My psychiatrist is wary of adding more meds right now, which I understand but it’s frustrating because this sleep disruption is taking a noticeable toll and has been waking Jim and Woody up as well.

It’s currently 3:55 and my body will not let me sleep peacefully. I usually get up, stretch, have a snack, pet my pup, and lay on the couch for a little bit before I go back to bed.

Tomorrow is another big day and I think I’ll be drinking lots of coffee. Wren gets a demo wheelchair dropped off, she has distance learning. I have TMS, and an extended ketamine infusion. When I get home a friend is coming over for dinner.
